29 Days of Giving

Recently I have struggled with a little more self pity than I like to publically admit! I have a great life; intellectually I know this (trust me). Emotionally, I think I am really hard on myself, always pressuring myself to be more, to get more, and to have more. I am one of those really annoying people that has to be as close to perfect as I can be in nearly everything I do. Being nearly perfect is great, except that it’s exhausting and I think I need to find a way to eradicate the mind-set entirely.
Bottom line: it’s unhealthy and I think I have known this for nearly two decades, but I have never really had the courage to admit it or do anything about it.
In my quest for tasks that will help me remember that I have enough, that I am enough, I came across an article in one of my favourite magazines about how giving to others without expectation can reconnect us with our world. I was instantly intrigued. Cami Walker, the founder of 29gifts.org and author of 29 Gifts: How a Month of Giving Can Change Your Life, credits 29 days of giving with helping her emotionally tackle a diagnoses with MS—high praise for sure!
The challenge seems like an opportunity to create some joy so I am going to give it a try—29 days of giving with consciousness and intention. I am resisting the urge to make a spreadsheet and plan my giving for all 29 days—that’s definitely something the perfect me would do! I am hoping to find a way to just give, in the moment, as my talents are needed, and as the universe directs me to. And I am going to write about it at
Edwards Magazine so that I can share my experiences with all of you.
I hope that I can inspire some of you to join me on this journey. Please feel free to read along, share your gift ideas, or maybe even start your own 29 days of giving!
