29 Days of Giving Challenge: Day One

Today was my first day of the 29 Days of Giving and I thought I had a plan this morning. I was all ready to give this thing to a colleague and then I forgot it at home—it must not have been in the stars! So I went in and started the day and didn’t really think about what I was going to give because I was far too busy to even contemplate it.
The universe, however, had a plan and by 10:00 am I had a gift to give! Our band teacher was preparing to run an assembly this afternoon and a band concert tomorrow evening and wasn’t entirely sure how she was going to manage it all by herself so I volunteered my expertise and time (I actually volunteered myself and my wonderfully generous friend Erin’s time as well). We took charge of making sure that the student MCs had their script and knew their parts and that the technology component would all work smoothly. I took to learning the sound and projection systems by 10:30am and by time the assembly was upon us, we were all up and running.
I wouldn’t say that this one giving experience was transformational but it felt good to help a friend and I learned something new which is always exciting. If all 29 days are this busy I’m not sure I will make it through all 29 days! I will admit that I started the day feeling pretty anxious about my job situation and that my gift helped me find a distraction from those worries which I am very grateful for.

Ooh! Shoutout!
It *is* nice to help a friend. Helping someone else is something I do all the time, but I never really thought of it as “giving.” But it is! Thanks for that reminder.
